San Francisco’s NBA Team: The Golden State Warriors
Originally the San Francisco franchise began as the Philadelphia Warriors and only moved to the San Francisco Bay in 1962, when it changed its name to San Francisco Warriors and became known as the Golden State Warriors in 1971.
They are one of the best winning teams in the NBA, as they have 6 national titles. But their fame became worldwide especially in the second half of the 2010s. Thanks to the undisputed talent of Steph Curry, and the leadership of Steve Kerr, they managed to create an incredible sporting dynasty by winning the NBA Championships 3 times in a few years (2015 – 2017 – 2018).
Therefore, being able to attend a Warriors game live is certainly an opportunity not to be missed for all fans who are spending their vacation in San Francisco.
When Does the NBA Regular Season Start?
Luckily for fans, the NBA season lasts a long time and there are 82 games in the Regular Season (which runs from October to April) divided equally between those played at home and those away.
Once the Regular Season is over, the six best teams of the two conferences in which the championship is divided, compete in the Playoffs, which generally run from mid-April to mid-June. The winning teams of each conference will then compete in the Finals to determine who will earn the title of NBA champion.
Where to Buy NBA Tickets in San Francisco
Tickets for Golden State Warriors games can be purchased online (keep reading and you’ll also find some tips to save money), as well as at the Chase Center Box Office of the Chase Center, the arena where the Warriors play.
The advantage of buying them online is that you have one less thing to worry about once you get to San Francisco, saving you the trouble and time of having to go to the box office in person, as well as making sure you have both access to the game and that you can choose your favorite seats.
The other option to buy tickets is to go to the Chase Center Box Office located at the West Entrance of the Chase Center. Operating hours are Monday through Friday from 10:00 am to 4:00 pm. On weekends it is only open during events and the hours may vary.
Given that the Chase Center is not in a central location in San Francisco, buying tickets in person could be quite inconvenient, and waiting to buy the tickets until the day of the game could be risky as tickets may get sold out (at least tickets for the best seats). That’s why I think that the best solution may be to buy the tickets online in advance.
Best Seats at Chase Center and Tickets Prices
The Chase Center is divided into two sections. One is closer to the basketball court with sections 101 to 129, and one further away with sections 201 to 225. Of course, the most expensive tickets for the first section, while if you want to save some money, you should look in the second section.
Just to give you an idea of the prices of tickets, tickets for a mid-level game in the first section can range from $ 180-200, to even several thousand dollars for a seat in the front rows. As for the second section, prices range from $80-$90 to $190-200.
As you can see, the tickets are not very cheap, and this is basically due to two factors. First, the success of the Golden State Warriors, and secondly, the modern facility that hosts their games.
In addition to being new and technological, the Chase Center also has a medium-low capacity (just over 18,000 seats compared to other arenas of important teams that have at least 20,000 seats), which means that tickets are in demand throughout the season and, consequently, the price is not likely to fall below a certain threshold.

Tickets: How and When Do You Receive Them?
Depending on the place where you buy tickets, you can choose to receive your tickets in these ways:
- Electronic ticket: This is definitely the most convenient option. Once you make the purchase you will receive the ticket immediately or after a few days (but certainly before the game). You may receive it either in PDF version, which you can download and show directly from your mobile phone, or as an e-Ticket. In the latter case you will most likely have to register on the site (or on the dedicated app) to show proof of purchase of the ticket.
- By mail: Some retailers offer the possibility to send the physical ticket directly to your home. As well as being more expensive, because of the cost of mailing the ticket, you will have to calculate the time needed to find out whether to have the ticket sent to your home or directly to the hotel where you are staying in San Francisco.
- Collection at the specific place (will call): In some cases, you can choose to collect tickets at the box office upon presentation of the card with which you made the purchase and the confirmation email.
Make sure that you receive your ticket directly from the platform where you make the purchase.
How to Get to the Chase Center
Since the 2019-2020 season, after playing for 47 consecutive seasons at Oakland‘s Oracle Arena, the Golden State Warriors found their new home at the Chase Center in San Francisco’s Mission Bay.
Keep in mind that the arena entrances open 90 to 120 minutes before the games, while for other events the arena opens an hour prior to the event.
How to Get to the Chase Center by Public Transportation
The nearest MUNI station is UCSF/Mission Bay, served by the KT line. Once you get off at the stop, the entrance to the arena is less than a 5-minute walk away.
There are also many buses that pass near the Chase Center. There are regular bus lines such as the 22, 48, and 55, and the special ones that on the occasion of basketball games such as the 78X and 79X (the closest stop to the Chase Center, in this case, is Illinois Street).

Unlike the arenas of other cities where NBA games are played, you can reach the Chase Center by ferry! During all Warriors games, there are several ferries that arrive at the following Pier:
- Pier 48: it’s less than a mile from the Chase Center. Go on Terry Francois Boulevard to reach the arena.
- San Francisco Bay Ferry to and from Oakland
- Golden Gate Ferry to and from Larkspur
- Pier 52: it is closer to the Chase Center, which will be only a 5-minute walk away
- Mission Bay TMA /Tideline connecting Berkeley Marina
Parking in the area
If you have read our advice on how to get around San Francisco, you will know that using the car to visit this city is the most complicated solution. This also applies to the area around the Chase Center, since there is not much parking available in the area and those present are obviously for a fee.
The closest parking lots to the Chase Center are:

- Owens Garage – 1800 Owens Street

Where to eat around here
Of course, inside the arena, you will find many options for food and drinks that can satisfy practically any type of need. However, the food can be pricey and you will have to deal with long lines, especially when there are games with a large turnout.
Because the Chase Center is a new building, unfortunately it means that there is still a lot of construction in the area. Although at the time we’re writing the article there aren’t a lot of places to eat in the immediate vicinity, it’s very likely that the situation will change in a few years.
