High Roller Las Vegas: The Tallest Ferris Wheel in the World

If a new attraction were to open in Las Vegas, there is no doubt that if it is not a casino, then it will almost certainly be something that sets a record of some kind. A great example of this is the Las Vegas High Roller, which opened in 2014 and at 550 ft, it is the tallest Ferris wheel in the world. To make a comparison with Ferris wheels in Europe, the famous London Eye (in London), which still holds the European record, only reaches 443 ft.

Don’t expect to take a short ride in a shaky metal seat like in an amusement park. The High Roller experience is completely different. It’s not just the height that makes a ride on this colossal wheel unique. 28 ball-shaped cabins, with air-conditioning and music in the background, allow you to make the most of the half-hour ride under the scorching Nevada desert sun.

Below the High Roller, there is one of the newest areas in Las Vegas, the LINQ, where the wheel is one of the main features and where you can stay overnight at its main hotel. On the horizon, you see the spectacular backdrop of the desert and mountains. The experience becomes even more spectacular in the evening, when in the cabins, which can accommodate up to 40 people, you can have a party with drinks made on the spot.

Location and Directions

The High Roller is the most representative symbol of the LINQ district, an area of about 7 acres created in recent years by Caesars Entertainment. The casino giant in the last decade has completely changed the skyline of this segment of the city overlooking the Strip, and its main attraction is the Ferris wheel. The High Roller is surrounded by hotels, restaurants, casinos, and dozens of shops.

The Ferris wheel is so impressive that it is impossible to lose sight of it, so it is really easy to get there whether by foot or by car. If you want to drive there in your car (or rental car), it is better not to reach it from the Strip. Instead, I advise you to approach it from the other side of the LINQ where there is a huge parking lot between Linq Ln and Koval Ln.

The Monorail is the ideal solution especially on hot summer days, when walking under the sun can be tiring, just get off at Harrah’s & The LINQ Station.

The High Roller Experience: More Than Just the View las vegas high roller ferris wheel

Those who take a ride on the High Roller will have the entire city below them. During the day, sunbathers tanning at the swimming pool of the Flamingo look like ants underneath the High Roller, while at night, the nearby fountain of the Bellagio is even more remarkable from above.

Depending on the time of day, the ride on the High Roller offers different views. During the daytime, it’s especially worthwhile to look beyond the city limits, where the desert collides with the Spring Mountains. But the best view, as with almost all attractions in Las Vegas, is at sunset. The casino lights, the fountains, the crowds of people who liven up the hot summer evenings and enjoy cocktails in the bars in the LINQ below create a whole new effect.

To say that it is worth entering a High Roller cabin just for the view would be an understatement. The city of Las Vegas, on the other hand, is not so famous for its landscapes as for being one of the world capitals of fun and excess. Even its tallest attraction offers numerous alternatives in this respect.

  • Aperitif on the High Roller: one of the most popular alternatives to the simple ride, especially in the evening, is to take advantage of the open bar that serves passengers on the suspended “bubble”. Throughout the entire 30-minute journey, you can have drinks made personally by a bartender.
  • Events for groups: The cabins are very large and those who choose the easy ride will obviously have to share the space with strangers. If you travel in a group, you can reserve a whole cabin, with or without an open bar, to have a private experience in the sky over Las Vegas.
  • Wedding on the High Roller: In Las Vegas, as we are used to seeing it in movies, there are many venues for weddings and they are often quick. Those who created the biggest Ferris wheel in the world couldn’t help but think about this possibility too, which in fact attracts many couples, mostly Americans. However, if you are planning your wedding in Las Vegas and want it to be as original as possible, you can also consider this option. A very similar alternative in the Midwest is to get married at the Willis Tower in Chicago -> best things to do in Chicago.
  • A Romantic proposal while soaring in the sky: Maybe getting married on a Ferris wheel is too much, but using it to propose marriage or to have a romantic getaway could be an appealing option. If this is your plan, the VIP cabin is what you are looking for. It has a limit of 2 to 10 people. Champagne and chocolate-covered strawberries are served and the music can be personalized.
  • Eating at high altitude: Another interesting possibility, although not very cheap, is to take advantage of the half-hour tour to have lunch or dinner in this very unique location. There are several meal options on the High Roller.

High Roller Tickets: Prices and Special Events

las vegas ruota panoramicaThe High Roller ride doesn’t always have the same price, it depends on what kind of experience you want to have, but also on the time you want to access the wheel. There are special discounts on tickets, but almost all of them are for citizens of the state of Nevada, US military, or students. The only discount valid for everyone, whether you are American or a foreigner, is the senior discount for guests aged 65 years and over. The senior discount takes $5 off of the regular ticket price.

These are the prices for special events, all of which must be booked in advance:

  • Chocolate Tasting: $45. Every Thursday from 5:00 pm to 8:00 pm. Each person is offered a glass of wine and can taste handmade chocolates by a master chocolatier. Those under 21 will be given a soft drink instead of wine, but the price of the ticket does not change.

  • Virgil’s BBQ Cabin: Starting at $975 per group. You must be 21 or older. There is food and an open bar for the duration of the tour in a cabin reserved for your group. The basic price of $975 includes access for up to 15 people. However, it is possible to let up to 25 people in and each additional guest will pay $37.

Fly LINQ: Jump into the Air

FLY linqAlthough the Ferris wheel offers a breathtaking view and numerous services, perhaps you are looking for a more adrenaline-filled alternative. The creators of the innovative LINQ district have also thought of this. Thus, they introduced the Fly LINQ Zipline where you can jump into the air and fly over the Strip towards the High Roller (those who love zip lines will find it interesting to know that you can find one also on Fremont Street).

This cable car is certainly one of the most exciting activities you can do in Downtown Las Vegas and is suitable for both young people and families whose children will surely enjoy it more than a night at the casino. You can either ride the zip line in a sitting position or lying down on your stomach, which is classified as the Superhero option and actually feels a bit like you are Superman flying over the city.

The Fly LINQ entrance is located at 3545 South Las Vegas Blvd. It is open daily from 11:30 am to midnight on weekdays, and closes at 2:00 am on Fridays and Saturdays. There is no age limit to board the zip line, but you must weigh no less than 59 lbs and no more than 300 lbs. In addition, children under 12 years of age must be accompanied by an adult. There are various price levels. If you are interested in purchasing tickets, you can click on the link below.

Where to Stay in the Area

As I have mentioned, however, the High Roller is only a short walk from the Strip, where there are large hotels on both sides of the road. 1. Wow, this Ferris wheel looks incredible! I can’t believe the views of the Strip it offers. I’ve always wanted to experience a ride on a giant Ferris wheel, and now I have the chance. Thanks for sharing this information! I’ll definitely consider taking a ride when I’m in Vegas next.
