If there’s one place where it’s almost impossible not to find accommodations, it’s Las Vegas, a city where the bizarre and eccentric hotels have become emblems of the city itself.

Searching for a hotel will not be a problem. It is just a matter of choosing the right place. The Strip is definitely the best area to find every type of hotel imaginable. The problem, if anything, can be another: how do you pick one hotel out of the incredible variety found in this unusual city? In short, how do you choose where to stay in Las Vegas?

Where to Stay on the Las Vegas Strip

Where to Stay on the Las Vegas StripThe Strip (Las Vegas Boulevard South) is the most symbolic street of the city and fully embodies its spirit and many contradictions. Staying in a hotel on this street is a type of experience that goes well beyond the simple overnight stay. In fact, many of the hotels are themed, and in addition to the inevitable casinos, they feature reconstructions of famous cities or particular settings that can be a bit kitsch, but still charming.

Also, choosing a hotel in Las Vegas will not stop you from exploring all the others. A trip to the Strip will also entail a walk through all the other hotels, which will keep their doors open at all times (hopefully you’ll want to make a bet at the table).

Should You Book or Shouldn’t You?

In Las Vegas, it is always convenient to book, especially if you come here on a weekend. Every weekend, tens of thousands of tourists flock to the city, causing prices to go up. If you book well in advance, however, you can find very affordable prices.

Looking for a place to stay on the Strip on the same day could prove to be much more expensive. So I recommend looking ahead of time!

Hotels Outside of Las Vegas Strip

Places to Stay in Las VegasObviously, in Las Vegas, there are hotels also located far from the Strip, and often in these areas, you can get a great price. However, in recent years, the difference between the rates on the Strip and other areas has been getting smaller and smaller, making it quite easy to find low prices even on Las Vegas Boulevard South, so in general, looking for a hotel outside of the Strip is not particularly recommended.

In any case, if you still want to search for a hotel in the suburban areas, you can find a list of cheap hotels on this page. Instead, if you are looking for a selection of hotels on the Strip, take a look here.

Distance and Transportation between Hotels

best places to stay in las vegasIf you spend the night on the Strip, getting around is easy, and you should not worry about it too much when choosing your hotel. This is because the main attractions of Las Vegas are all concentrated on the Strip and you can take advantage of the Monorail, which quickly connects the MGM Grand to the Sahara, and the intermediate stops allow you to go to the various clubs or other hotels. Another option is to take the buses that run all along the boulevard in both directions and stop in front of each of the biggest and most famous casinos.

If you choose not to stay on the Strip, then check for public transportation services in the main area, because driving around in a car or finding parking can be extremely frustrating, especially for those who hate traffic! To find out more information, read our guide to getting around Las Vegas.

How to Choose a Hotel in Las Vegas

How to Choose a Hotel in Las VegasIt comes down to personal preference. The type of vacation you have in mind will sway you towards a certain type of accommodation over another. My advice is to choose one of the themed hotels, which are inspired by certain historical periods, cities, or cultures.

Although such reconstructions are artificial and sometimes a bit tacky, they probably embody better than anything else the tendency to exaggerate that characterizes Las Vegas. If these kinds of attractions that you find repulsive, maybe this city is not for you…

We have dedicated an article to the subject, which includes a list of recommended hotels. If you are interested, read about the best themed hotels in Las Vegas.

Some of the themed hotels and more conventional ones are luxury hotels, and they are suitable for those looking for a 5-star vacation with all the comforts and amenities. We have also published a selection of our favorites (Venetian, Wynn, Bellagio, Cosmopolitan, and Aria). If you want to know more about these hotels, read our article about the best luxury hotels in Las Vegas.

Finally, don’t forget that most of these hotels also have abundant buffets, a true trademark of the city that we have already told you about in our guide to where to eat in Las Vegas.
